Los Guaraguao is a Venezuelan musical group, initiated in 1973. The group members originally included Eduardo Martínez (first vocal, guitar, and four-stringed guitar), Jesús Cordero (second vocal and bass), and José Guerra (third vocal and drums). In 1977, Luis Suares (main guitar, mandolin, and string) joined the group. In 1973, Los Guaraguao recorded their first album, Las Casas de Cartón (The Cardboard Houses) which described the harsh living conditions of millions of people all over the world. The success of this album throughout Latin-American countries made Los Guaraguao a leading musical group within the socially oriented genre. In 1974, after touring Venezuela several times, the group had its first international tour, lasting five months. The musical events included the San Juan de Aragón Festival in México. Los Guaraguao recorded their second album, Mi Viejo (My Old Folk), that year. The group was also invited to play in the Seven Days with the People Festival in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. A series of albums followed: Venezuela Folklore y Esperanza (Venezuela Folklore and Hope), Los Guaraguao Volumen 4, Tio Caimán (Uncle Cayman), Llego el Tiempo (The Time Has Come), Los Guaraguao Volumen 7. All five albums were recorded between 1975 and 1978. The group traveled to Cuba representing Venezuela in the Opposition Festival in 1978. The eighth and ninth albums were compilations of the greatest hits of Los Guaraguao. The tenth album sought to restore the once popular musical manifestations of Venezuela. These three albums were recorded in 1980. That year, the group traveled to Spain in a tour that included the city of Madrid as well as several Spanish provinces, including Galicia and Asturias. The eleventh and twelfth albums, Nuestras Manos (Our Hands) and Por Un Nuevo Amanecer (For a New Dawn), were recorded in 1982 and 1983, respectively. In 1983, the group traveled for the third time to the Dominican Republic representing Venezuela in the Peace Festival. The thirteenth album, Y Se Fue De Carrera (And It Went So Quickly), was recorded in 1984. That same year, the group traveled to Bogotá, Colombia representing Venezuela in the V Voice Festival. In 1985, Los Guaraguao traveled to the Soviet Union representing Venezuela at the XII Youth and Students Festival. In 1993, the group toured El Salvador and was welcome with opened arms. The first CD, Vamos Andando (Let’s Walk Together), was recorded in 1996. In 2000, the group toured El Salvador again and Guatemala for the first time. In 2001, Los Guaraguao traveled to El Salvador and Guatemala once more. Now, the group is ready to visit the United States of America for the first time.
